Who are the Bamber Bunnies? Simply put, we are fans of Jamie Bamber, the actor who most notably portrayed Lee “Apollo” Adama in SciFi’s Battlestar Galactica remake and Lt. Archie Kennedy on A&E's masterpiece series "Hornblower." He's also headlining the brand-spanking new ITV Drama Law & Order: UK as DS Matt Devlin, so a big welcome to all Jamie fans, old and new. Under the surface, we are equal parts support group and sorority; very real and everyday friends. The bunnies are from all walks of life – housewives, nurses, microbiologists, students. We range in age from 19 to … let’s not say. We hail from “everywhere” – Wisconsin, Georgia, Canada, England, Chile, Sweden, Norway, Ohio... So, what brings this assorted group together? What about this particular actor is so interesting that he transcends age, country of origin, socio-economic status, level of education, and gender? There is the simple answer, of course. (The “visage”, as he says) Yet I like to think that it takes more than a pretty, ehrm, face to draw this type of fan community. His looks are what brought everyone to the table, but his brilliance, incredible talent, and wonderful nature are what keep us coming back for more! Jamie is refreshingly so much more than another pretty face; his intelligence and passion simply radiate from him. He makes us proud to be fanatics. In my time as a devout Bamber Bunny, I have seen amazing things. People who have never written creatively before have picked up a pen and told us stories. People who have never done any visual art of any kind have made fan art tributes. They have begun new exercise programs and diets. They have flown to new countries to meet fellow fans – and the man himself. They’ve celebrated at birthday parties and weddings, and helped each other mourn the loss of loved ones. They have battled chronic illnesses, and others have given to charities to help find cures. We’ve been together though it all. And, sometimes consciously, sometimes unwittingly, so has Jamie. Whether looking at pictures of him, reading his interviews, watching some Hornblower, or meeting him in person, Jamie never fails to bring smiles to our faces. So, if you are not yet an official Bunny, please stop in and introduce yourself. We’ve got a lot of fun stuff in store for the future, and much, much more of our daily insanity.
Well..all of that sounds lovely, but how do I BECOME a bunny? Sister (or brother) if you are here, reading this, then chances are you already are one. We don't claim exclusive domain over that particular species of mammal. (We looked in to it but the rights were too expensive.) To put it simply, anyone who wants to be called a Bamber Bunny is one. Requirements: 1.) You must actually be a fan of Jamie Bamber. (This sounds nonsensical but I've had friends ask if they can be bunnies without ever having seen Jamie. Yeah, he's that awesome.) 2.) Play nice. And that's about it. Now, as far as registering for this site goes, contact Bamberrific via the "Contact Us" link at the top of every page, and she can set you up so you can comment on blogs, photos, and even have a blog and bio of your very own. For a more interactive and in your face method, hop over to scifi.com and register for the forums. You'll find us. Any fan of Jamie's is a friend of ours, so don't be shy!
